Children and Young People

Individual Work

Brighter Futures principle Danny Biscombe has worked individually and in groups with many children and young people needing support in many different areas of their lives over the years. He is also a voluntary youth leader and assistant football coach and has worked with young people since 1984 and has a great empathic understanding of the needs of children and young people. He is also a father of two children and has experienced being a parent for over twenty two years.

In a professional capacity, he has worked with children from aged eight years upward. Some of the most common areas of support given to children and young people are:

  • Behaviour (ADHD - ADD - Autism)
  • Anger/Aggression/Violence
  • Domestic Abuse (Both as perpetrators and victims)
  • Antisocial and offending behaviour
  • Truancy
  • Drugs and Alcohol
  • Low Self Esteem and Confidence
  • Anxiety - Panic Attacks
  • Self Harm
  • Bereavement
  • Bullying
  • Separation and Bullying
  • Victims of child abuse
  • Mediating between adolescents/Parents/Teachers

In many cases it has been necessary to give guidance to the parent(s)/carer(s) and teacher(s) to better equip them to support the aims and objectives of the intervention and to take a holistic approach in supporting the individual.

Danny uses various resources to make the intervention as much fun as possible and individuals enjoy coming to sessions. As their self esteem improves, they become enthusiastic participants and often don't want to leave the session!

A small investment for a short term intervention can support and equip an individual with tools and strategies that they can use throughout their lives and pass those skills on to others.

Some of the Positive Outcomes from interventions can be:

  • Improved self esteem/self value and confidence
  • Greater internal motivation and empowerment
  • A greater sense of personal rsponsibility
  • A greater sense of autonomy
  • A greater sense of self, direction and purpose
  • A more empathic understanding of others
  • Improved mental and physical health
  • Greater problem solving skills (empowerment)
  • Greater communication skills and assertiveness
  • Improved behaviour and relationships
  • Feeling safer and supported
  • Greater educational attainment
  • Some children leave the care of the local authority and return home
  • A reduction in youth related antisocial behaviour and low level crime
  • Feeling more inclusive in families, communities and society as a whole

See our 'Community Intervention Programme' page for more details of working with children and young people and the independant evaluation completed and the incredible results acheived from a short term investment and intervention.
